Ronan graduates 59 seniors in emotional ceremony

RONAN — With high spirits and overflowing emotions, Ronan High School graduated 59 seniors Friday night to a chorus of cheers, applause and tears.
In all, the seniors earned approximately $433,840 in college scholarships. After a tearful speech from Salutatorian Sarah Anderson and a conversely lighthearted address by valedictorian Robert Hocker, guest speaker Amy Miller took the stage to a resounding chorus of applause and cheers from the seniors.
“Today, with this graduation ceremony, you have achieved success,” Miller said. “In the eyes of the world, you are equal in your success. You are all high school graduates.”
Miller admitted to having moments of self-doubt after she was asked to be the guest speaker, saying that she had made many mistakes along the road to where she is today. After some reflection, Miller decided she would talk about just that: making mistakes in life and learning from them.
“What all of us really want for you is that you go out into this world and find success and happiness,” she said. “As simple as it sounds, those are our basic wishes for you ... in regards to happiness, if you spend your life pursuing it, you will never find it. Happiness is a choice ... and happy people laugh at themselves. Life is much more fun if you are your own amusement.”
