POLSON — “Our class made a big portrait of animals,” Kendra Spotted Bear said. “I made the bear.”
Kendra is in Kris Nordberg’s second grade class. Kendra’s friend Reagan Wetzel created a butterfly picture and insects in Darcie Laud’s second grade
The bear — wonderfully depicted with a fish in his mouth — the butterfly and the insects were all part of Linderman Elementary School’s annual Arts in Our Backyard celebration.
The event celebrates student art and honors all Linderman volunteers, including Foster Grandparents, Polson Reads and all parent volunteers, according to Linderman Principal Josh Preiss.
Local artist Edna Lemm will coordinate all parent volunteers district-wide next year, Preiss said.
While Art in Our Backyard has been inside Linderman gym for the last three years, this year the fences surrounding the Linderman walking path were splashed with colorful art from all the classes. Keryl Lozar’s third-graders needed a table to exhibit their loons, shaped from clay, fired and painted.
Parents, grandparents and other visitors strolled the walking path viewing the artwork, and then many joined the children in a picnic lunch on the soccer field. Lunch was barbecued burgers, cooked by “Chef Boyardee” Luan Atkinson, followed by fudge pops for dessert.
