Editor,

It is still difficult to accept that Chas Cantlon is no longer here with us in the Mission Valley. His lifetime of good works have been seen and felt by so many in this valley over the last 35 years. Although he and Margie moved to Idaho a couple of years ago, they both continued to support many worthy causes locally. From the many years of support for the arts through Big Productions, formerly the Folk Shop concert series, to more than 35 years of support for the Lake County Youth Home.

Chas’ loving support of the Youth Home in particular has made such a difference in the lives of so many kids. Of course the word “support” is woefully inadequate to express his involvement with the Youth Home. He was a past house parent, and the long standing Executive Director who worked tirelessly to make this home a supportive and safe place for kids who have not had the advantages in life that so many of us take for granted.

As a member of the board of directors for the Lake County Youth Home, it has been my great honor to have learned from and served with Chas. I believe that a fitting celebration of Chas’ life is being planned for sometime in August where many of us can come together and share our memories with Margie.
