Editor,

First I must say I am a swimmer who loves to swim. I learned at a very early age … that’s the best time to learn. As a yearly member of Mission Valley Aquatics I get to use the newest and best facility in our Valley, quite often. This week I was privileged to be there when the first of the swimming lessons began. In all the groups signed up there were a total of 80 in all the lesson programs. One group of little ones looked like a group of little baby ducks splashing and getting use to the water. Another group could dog paddle and place their faces in the water with confidence. All ages were accepted into the lessons (ages 3 and up). The costs are not excessive (eight classes for $45, plus pool entry cost) but there are always some people who could not afford to take them. I spoke to a staff member of MVA about this and was told that they were looking for scholarship funding for early-learning swim lessons. Their thought on this was that with a monetary help program it could be set up to assist those who just can’t afford the lessons.

On another note, in the “warm water” therapy pool at the same time there were young parents with their babies. I could not believe my eyes as the infants paddled in their parents’ arms … one man had his hands full with an infant and a 3-year-old paddling around him. I was proud of working alongside those who have made this possible.

I do not get up early. I am retired. But I “heard” that there is a group of young people who arrive at 6 a.m. for a full workout before they go to work. Youth — what more can one say.

I hope to see you all taking advantage of this magnificent facility, home of Mission Valley Aquatics. For more information or to sponsor a scholarship please call (406) 883-4567.
