POLSON — Next Thursday is the Fourth of July, a day to celebrate the United States of America’s independence. For many folks that means parades, family barbecues, swimming in the lake, and then, when it gets dark, chrysanthemums and spider fireworks bursting into bloom above Flathead Lake.
“Polson has an amazing venue to host fireworks,” said Heather Knutson, Polson Chamber of Commerce board member.
While the colorful display is free for spectators, the show has a hefty price tag since purchasing fireworks is expensive. Knutson remembered a Fourth of July five or six years ago, when there were no community fireworks.
A budget for firecrackers, fountains, shells and roman candles doesn’t fall under any one particular community organization’s budget so the Marine Corps League always has helped raise the funds necessary for the fireworks show. In the last five or six years, the Polson Chamber of Commerce has stepped up also.
Thanks to generous donations from businesses, area people and visitors, the community fireworks display has been possible.
The Fourth is coming soon, and donations again are needed. Contributions can be slipped into containers shaped like firecrackers at local stores. Knutson said the Marine Corps League plans a boot drive on U.S. Highway 93 to collect money from motorists.
Area residents or visitors who enjoy the fireworks can send a check made out to Fourth of July Fireworks Fund to the Polson Chamber of Commerce, 418 Main Street in Polson.
