News from The Jocko Valley Trails Committee

ARLEE — The Jocko Valley Trails Committee is pleased to announce the first section of a trail extending south from Arlee along Highway 93 is due to begin construction on July 15. A pre-construction meeting was held on July 10 and the approximate trail location was laid out on the ground. This first section will extend from the west end of Pow Wow Road in Arlee to the intersection of Jocko Road and Highway 93 running along the northeast side of the highway. Construction is scheduled to last 45 days. Plans are in place to extend the next section of this trail from Jocko Road to Coldwater Lane next spring. The Kicking Horse Job Corp Center will do the construction and the Salish-Kootenai College Highway Construction Program will haul materials for the trail to the job site. Once this unpaved trail is completed, it is hoped asphalt will be laid in the fall of 2014.

Plans are also slowly moving ahead for a trail along the Jocko Road extending from the mouth of the Jocko Canyon to Highway 93. Due to right-of-way and placement issues, this trail will take some time. For more information, contact Gary Decker at (406) 726-4149.
