of Fire

WETIP was founded in 1972 as an anonymous crime reporting resource for citizens and a tool to aid law enforcement.  WETIP is committed to providing the most effective anonymous citizens crime reporting system in the nation. WETIP promises and insures absolute anonymity, not just confidentiality. What relationship does WETIP have with the Flathead Indian Reservation?

Currently, the FIR has experienced over 50 human-caused fires that have destroyed resources and resulted in suppression costs.  WETIP has a reward up to $10,000 for information regarding arson on Indian Lands.  The reward is made available to all persons who witness arson activities and are influential in prosecuting these individuals.

The process WETIP follows is that the informant calls the WETIP hot line. All calls are anonymous, not just “confidential.” Confidential means someone knows your name and promises not to tell it, until they are subpoenaed.  “Anonymous” means that nobody knows who you are, and there is absolutely no way to find out.

The first step is to call 1-800-47-ARSON, the first message you will receive is “don’t give your name or identify yourself in any way.”  After this message, instructions will be given to how this information will be received or how the reward money will be distributed.
