Editor,

This letter is in recant to the news article that was printed in the Valley Journal in regards to the Ronan City Council meeting held on Monday, July 22. The reason that many of us establishment owners attended that council meeting was to ask for a review of our yearly Pioneer Days application for open container and street dance. This is the first year that we received so much negative feedback and restrictions on our application from City Hall. We were perplexed at the Public Work Director and City Hall’s stipulations on our application.

I would like to set the record straight by saying I was not singling out Dairy Queen as the culprit in the trash that seems to be an issue with the Public Works Director, I was simply stating that the street dance is not the only game in town during the Pioneer Days festivities. There are numerous businesses and organizations that help make Pioneer Days a successful weekend for our community.

What I did say to the mayor is that I would not pick up an oil can from his place of employment, and I have yet to sell one diaper out of my business, so I am not going to be picking up diapers. His reply was, if it weren’t for the street dance, the diaper wouldn’t be there. The lack of professionalism in City Hall is beyond words. After 32 years of business on Main Street in downtown Ronan, I have seen a lot of businesses come and go. Ronan’s Main Street is dying and the anti-small business attitude of the City Council is digging the grave.
