RONAN — Although she’s been in Montana for two months, Michaelene Brownfield is the new face around the Western Montana Mental Health Center; she’s the clinical director for the mental health clinic.

Before Brownfield moved to Montana, she spent the last two years in Elgin, Okla. She graduated from the University of South Dakota with her master’s degree and is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.

The WMMHC offers outpatient mental health counseling for adults and children, case management for adults and children, emergency services and psychiatric services. The center also offers community based rehabilitation, focusing on getting people out of the hospital and involved in the community. WMMHC also provides on-call mental health professionals for both St. Luke Community Center and Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, according to Brownfield.

If a client loses housing, needs help with social security paperwork or needs a ride to the doctor, WMMHC helps plug him or her into resources around the area.

“We provide wrap-around services for patients,” Brownfield said.

Brownfield’s long term goals for the Ronan and Polson offices include combining those offices in a new facility and putting in a day treatment program as a place for clients to go that provides meals and an opportunity for socialization. A safe house for emergency detention is also a need.

Clients may walk into the clinic and schedule an appointment, be referred by a doctor or Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Health, probation services, the department of health and human services or vocational rehabilitation.

Western Montana Mental Health Center is located at 8 Second Ave. SW in Ronan or at 1105 First Street E. in Polson.
