THREE FORKS — The Bulldogs will enter the toughest part of their season with a lot of momentum after demolishing Three Forks 42-7 Friday night.

The Bulldogs ran wild over the Wolves in Three Forks, rushing for 338 yards on 42 carries. The normal ground-and-pound rushing attack for the Bulldogs gave way to the big play in the lopsided win – the Bulldogs averaged more than 8 yards a carry.

The Bulldogs’ speedy back, Austin Durglo made the biggest plays, scoring on a 56-yard run in the second quarter to give the Bulldogs their first lead of the game. Durglo ended the scoring with a 80-yard run in the third quarter. Durglo’s final touchdown gave the Bulldogs a 35-point lead and started the running clock for probably the first time in the Bulldogs’ history. Durglo finished with 200 yards on 13 carries, averaging 15.4 yards a carry.

With the blowout, the Bulldogs extended their streak to three and now sit at 4-1, but so what. Mission coach Peter Hamilton said the final three games will determine the success of the season. Mission will end the season with three conference games as they try to earn a playoff berth.

While the Bulldogs’ current record isn’t that important to Hamilton, how they’re improving from week to week is.

“We’re starting to peak. We’re starting to play together on offense and defense,” Hamilton said. “The offensive line is definitely getting better every week. They’re the glue that holds the team together. If they’re playing good we’re hard to beat.”

After falling behind 7-0, the Bulldogs exploded for 28 points in the second quarter. Chris McKay, the bruiser in the three-pronged running attack, started the scoring with a 17-yard run. McKay finished with 71 yards on 13 carries. It was the first time in four games that the senior hasn’t reached 100 yards.

After Durglo’s 56-yard scamper, Scotty Gilleard, the Bulldogs’ scat back, took it in from the 2, and linebacker Barret Sargent ended the scoring in the half by returning an interception 50 yards to give the Bulldogs a 28-7 lead at the break. Sargent finished with seven tackles.

Gilleard, who rushed for 45 yards, and Lane Wheeler also pulled down interceptions for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs’ defense has held their opponents to an 11-point average during the win streak.

The Bulldogs will start their playoff push by hosting the Eureka Lions Friday. Both teams have a 2-1 conference record.
