RONAN – Although Ronan took a hard 25-8 loss to Deer Lodge Friday, the Chiefs are ready to battle and taking the season in stride. With a mostly junior and senior team, high hopes are on the horizon.

After last season’s injury issues, head coach Jim Benn is working on creating cohesion with the young guys blending in with the seniors.

“The big key is going to be improvement,” Benn said. “We’ll fix the little things."

Each game will be a learning curve and preparations will be determined on who they will face each week.

Leadership is not a problem for the Chiefs as the seniors are stepping it up. “I’m especially pleased with our senior group and how they have responded to different difficult situations," Benn said.

Standout players are hard to judge this early in the season and Coach Benn sees his team as a whole.

“It’s such a team sport," he said. “They’re all contributing significantly."

Though the Chiefs first game of the season ended with a loss against Eureka, Benn says they’re working through it.

With a goal of competing in the 6B conference championship, Coach Benn says they have not even scratched the surface of their game.

As for the rest of the season, “Those things will reveal themselves,” Benn said. “I’m excited to see where they’re going to take us."
