Editor,

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a teacher (even a retired one) is watching your former students transform into successful adults. These amazing people become respectable business owners, organizers of charity events, presidents of community organizations and willingly give back to the community that supported them while they were growing up.

When I started teaching in Polson in 1987, Heather Knutson was a middle school student who immediately stood out as a leader in the classroom and on the athletic fields. Time has only solidified my first impression of her outstanding qualities. She left the community for college, work and world experiences before returning home with a desire to be an asset to her family and community.

Heather has contributed as a businessperson working to build Country Pasta, a business that was started by her parents. She was instrumental in starting Live Locally, to help a variety of organizations and individuals. And as president of the Polson Chamber of Commerce she applied her leadership skills to work with others to promote Polson and its businesses.

Heather is now running for the office of the Mayor of Polson and I believe she has the leadership abilities, communication skills, enthusiasm and energy needed to be successful. The pride she has in her community, evident by her participation in all facets of the community, her willingness to listen and learn and her desire to connect with others lead me to believe she would be an outstanding Mayor.

From competing in the first Flathead Lake Hoop Fest in the early 1990’s to competing in the first Polson Triathlon a year ago, Heather has been an enthusiastic and willing participant in making Polson a great place to live. Now she is ready to get more involved in city government, and I know her experiences in a wide variety of Polson activities give her a strong background for the tasks ahead. She is open and willing to listen and her education and continual desire to learn and work with others make Heather Knutson an excellent candidate for Mayor of Polson.
