Editor,

As I live within the city limits of Polson I have been watching with interest the mayor and city commissioner election unfold and reading many letters to the editor. I have closely read and studied each letter I believe with an open mind.

I live in Ward 2 so am particularly interested in the candidate from my ward. I have one thing that puzzles me. I read a glowing self-written letter from candidate Murat Kalinyaprak. He stated in his letter that he had done several things for the city of Polson where he has saved the taxpayers many dollars. For that I say “kudos,” however as I do not know the man I have to take him at his word. As his name was not a common one and I do not know him personally I felt I should do a little research to validate what he had written. I was much surprised and dismayed.

This is the man that has on several occasions felt it necessary to file law suits against the city of Polson and its taxpayers for what I feel are silly and frivolous reasons. I have also learned that most, if not all of them, were thrown out by a judge for that same reason. However, because of these suits the taxpayers had to hire and pay for legal counsel to defend the actions on our behalf. This in itself has cost the very same taxpayers at least as much or more than he claims to have saved.

I am glad I took the time to research where I had seen this name before. I honestly can say that I cannot understand putting this man on our city council with a history of this kind. When a citizen feels that the only way he/she can assist in arriving at a solution, to what they perceive as a problem, is to file a lawsuit, then I do not feel this is in the best interest of the taxpayers. Therefore I cannot justify considering him for this public office.
