Are we jaded to war?

Editor,

Almost all of us seem to agree on how ridiculous the government shutdown is. The economy and individuals are being hurt in many ways.

One sad revelation was that survivors’ benefits are being withheld from families of troops killed overseas. This is bad enough news, but what really shocked me is that 17 of our soldiers have been killed recently enough to be affected. I watch and read a lot of news but only heard this because of the benefits issue.

Have we become so jaded to and the media so bored of war that we’re no longer paying attention to this? Today’s teenagers likely can’t remember their country not being at war. Even people in their twenties must surely remember being ten, but probably weren’t thinking how nice it was that we were not at war. Their coming of age and young adult years: all war. What will their attitudes be when they are running things? That war is the normal state of affairs?

Help us, our children, and grandchildren. Help America, and the world.
