KALISPELL — After a former Lake County Sheriff’s Office employee was charged earlier this month with two felonies related to poaching moose, state wildlife officials say they’re continuing to investigate members of the sheriff’s department on similar suspicions.
Jesse Jacobs is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a game animal, Fish, Wildlife and Parks Warden Capt. Lee Anderson said. Jacobs allegedly shot a moose illegally near Columbia Falls in 2005 and asked a Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribal member for his hunting permit.
“We got the information on (the case) this last spring,” Anderson said. “Our investigation is ongoing … we don’t comment much on active investigations.”
Anderson said the probe into Jacobs’ alleged illegal hunting activities “brought to light” possible further violations by LCSO employees. He wouldn’t say who’s being investigated or how many people might be involved.
