Editor,

What a welcome sight it is to see black garbage bags along the highways as many local residents donate their time and energy helping to keep the towns through this beautiful valley clean.

We especially thank the 25 residents who helped clean six miles of the highway through the town of Big Arm this past Saturday. Despite rather chilly, damp weather, these good folks turned out with good cheer, gloves, pickup sticks and were fortified with cookies and coffee. We report that the volume of garbage was much less than the previous collections so we also thank everyone who drives through Big Arm for helping to keep our town beautiful.

A big thank you to everyone.

The Big Arm Barn Dance was held this past Friday and we thank everyone who supported this event as you helped to make it successful. We appreciated those who attended, you certainly made the event lots of fun. We thank the dozens of helpers who cooked a wonderful dinner, decorated the barn, organized ticket sales, silent auctions and raffles. Thank you to those who setup and helped clean afterwards. A very special thank you to Arnold and Luella Gomke for once again allowing us to use their fabulous barn and to Lee and Sonya Engbretson for doing a wonderful job organizing the event. Through everyone’s help we raised another $2,000 to help pay for materials to restore the historic Big Arm School.

During the Barn Dance we announced the return of an antique cast iron bell to Big Arm. We are very grateful to Bill Merritt and his wife for donating this wonderful piece of Big Arm history to the community. We also thank Stephen Doll for organizing the return and to Jeff Meslin for making a terrific stand for the bell in just a few hours. Thanks so much everyone.
