RONAN — The Ronan Middle school welcomes one new teacher to their staff for the 2010-2011 school year.

Claire Hibbs-Cheff replaces Melissa Knabe as the seventh grade English teacher and eighth grade language instructor.

A graduate from Dartmouth College and the University of Montana, Hibbs-Cheff has taught in East Oakland, Calif. with Teach for America, the Navajo Nation, Arlee, the University of Montana and Houston, Texas .

The educator has lived in the Mission Valley for three years and is married to Mark Cheff. The couple has two children, Juliette, 4, and Luc, 3.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and her extended family. She enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking, swimming, floating the rivers, horse packing in the Montana wilderness and backpacking. She also enjoys reading and writing poems.

For Hibbs-Cheff, her students are her favorite aspect of teaching.

“I love working with kids and learning from them. They remind of us how wonderful, complicated and inspiring life can be sometimes,” Hibbs-Cheff said. “I like being able to take a concept or text and turn it into something that has substance and meaning for my students. I love seeing them develop confidence in their own skills and their own thinking about what we are studying.”
