EUREKA — The Lady Bulldogs got their Labor Day weekend off to a great start after beating the Lady Lions 3-1 in Eureka Saturday.

After a rough five-set loss to start the week in Superior, the Lady Bulldogs salvaged a tough two-game road swing by beating the Lady Lions 25-20, 15-25, 25-23, 25-14.

“When’s the last time we’ve beaten Eureka, period? I’m pretty sure it’s been ages. I don’t think that we’ve beaten them in over 15 or 20 years,” Mission coach Kendal Anderson said, when asked when was the last time Mission has beaten the Lady Lions in Eureka.

After an off night in Superior, the Lady Bulldogs’ offense was back on track in Eureka. They had one more kill in four sets than they had in five sets in Superior, finishing with 34. Jenn Larsson led the way with 13.

“Jenn really looked good, especially in that fourth set. She was finding the holes on the court and placing a lot of her kills around the court,” Anderson said.

For the second straight match, Mackenzie Trudeau, who is getting used to the libero role, led the team in digs, hitting the floor for 24 of the team’s 69.

“Mackenzie is stepping up. I think that as long as she stays focused, she will continue to improve with every game she plays. She’s starting to understand the court more and really moving around on defense,” Anderson said.

The Lady Bulldogs started the week with a 14-25, 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 15-12 loss to the Lady Bobcats in Superior Tuesday.

“We really got into our own heads, we weren’t passing very well and started making silly mistakes on offense and defense. Then became passive in our playing,” Anderson said. “Superior outplayed us 100 percent. When we started getting down, we lost the game mentally.”

Adessa Durglo led the team with 12 kills. Ashley Courville pitched in with eight and Larsson added seven. Durglo also had a team-high three blocks and along with Loren Erickson and Sierra Scott finished tied for the team lead with two aces.Trudeau had 20 of the team’s 89 digs.

The Lady Bulldogs host Plains Thursday and travel to Troy Saturday.
