POLSON — Governor Steve Bullock named Polson attorney James A. Manley to succeed the Honorable C. B. McNeil as District Court Judge in Lake and Sanders counties on Oct. 25.
The three finalists for the judgeship — Manley, Mark Russell and John Conn Schulte — met with Governor Bullock and his attorney on Wednesday, Oct. 23, and went through an interview process.
Then Governor Bullock called all three candidates on Thursday.
“It’s always exciting to get a call from the governor,” Manley said.
This call may have been the best.
“I’m excited,” Manley said. “It’s a new phase of my life.”
Manley never really thought about being a judge, he said, but when Judge McNeil announced his retirement, Manley had calls from a number of judges and attorneys urging him to apply for the position. He thought about the position for a week or two and decided it was time for a change in his life and a good challenge.
“After 35 years of trial practice, it’s time to move on and climb another mountain,” Manley said.
