Ennis eliminates Eagles, 67-56

BUTTE — Clayton Malatare’s six 3-pointers and Skyler Rossbach’s double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds wasn’t enough to pull past the Ennis Mustangs Feb. 25 at the Western C Divisional Tournament in Butte.

Ennis had four plays in double figures in the matchup, led by Jackson Goodman with 21 points and 13 boards.

The Eagles (14-8) outscored Ennis 15-13 in the first quarter, but the Mustangs fired back in the second, scoring 20 to Two Eagle’s 15 points to lead at the half 33-24.

The match was even in the second half, but Ennis built off its halftime lead, going five of seven at the line in the final moments of the game to win 67-56. The Eagles finish the season 15-8 after the loser-out game to Ennis.

On Feb. 24, the Eagles lost to Shields Valley 69-64 in a thrilling overtime contest to face Ennis. Shields Valley’s Mike Gagen scored 21 points, and Joseph Desch contributed 20 points and 12 rebounds. The Eagles led the Rebels entering the fourth quarter by three points, but the Rebels outscored Two Eagle 8-3 in overtime to win.

Artie Mendoza lit up the scoreboard with 21 points, and Rossbach added 12 points and five rebounds. The Eagles shot 59 percent from the floor and were out rebounded 43-23. Cole Noble dropped three 3-pointers for 15 points.
