‘Adopt a Grandparent’ provides cheer, smiles

RONAN – ‘Tis the season for giving, and Ronan high school senior Shelby Benson is doing just that. Benson is collecting sponsors for a program called “Adopt a Grandparent” in collaboration with Mary Kay cosmetics.
Benson puts together gifts and hand delivers them herself to various nursing homes throughout Lake County. The purchased gifts include Mary Kay products as well as candy and a coffee mug.
The program has participation throughout Montana and Benson hopes it grows throughout Lake County. Benson has the goal of putting together 75 gifts before Dec. 10 and is well on her way to that goal, but she needs help from the community.
With so many in nursing homes without local family, Benson’s goal is to bring holiday cheer and a smile.
“I visited my great-grandma in the nursing home and realized how just a little gesture in kindness can do so much,” she said.
Benson also has hopes to expand the program to not only the senior community but also others that are in need during the holiday season. If you would like to help you can purchase the $15 gifts through Benson.
