ST. IGNATIUS — Monday was a little like Christmas at the St. Ignatius School. Superintendent Bob Lewandowski and technology coordinator Matt Lyon spread plenty of back-to-school cheer as they handed out 10 brand new iPads to administrators and school board members — part of a plan to upgrade to cutting-edge technology throughout the school.

When construction on additions to the school is complete, students will have access to two new computer labs outfitted with 55 Apple computers. The district took out a $50,000 equity lease for three years to cover the cost of the new computers and iPads, Lewandowski explained. And if the new equipment didn’t work out for some reason, it could be returned after a year. But Lewandowski is confident that won’t happen.

“They’re very convenient,” he said of the iPads. “The problem is, we just spend a huge amount of time and money with the current board packages. I think that our board members will be better informed, and I think meetings will run a lot smoother (with the iPads).”

Principals and administrators will also find their jobs running more smoothly as they learn to use iPads to document their classroom walkthroughs.

“I really believe if we have better supervision of instruction, we’ll have better instruction,” Lewandowski said.

District clerk Neil Easter said the size of information packets for the school board varies from meeting to meeting, but is often several inches thick.
