POLSON — Rob Hankins, the new Polson High School principal, decided he wanted to be a teacher when he was a senior in high school, sitting in government class. Hankins had a good relationship with his government teacher and saw that the teacher could be with kids all day, coach and make a difference.
“From that point on, I knew I wanted to be a teacher,” Hankins said.
He got his degrees from the University of Montana — Western and taught math for six years before getting his administrative degree from the University of Montana.
The Hankins family, Amie and Rob, Dyllan, 8, Katelyn, 5, and Leyton, 4, love Polson.
“The kids are excited to be here . . . People are very very friendly,” Hankins said.
Dyllan will be going into third grade while Katelyn will become a kindergartner. Not to be left out, Leyton will attend the Montessori Preschool a few days a week.
The Hankins come to Polson from Sun River Valley School District in Simms, where Rob was an administrator for one year. Before that, Hankins was the high school principal in Townsend for four years.
Hankins said he’s looking forward to meeting students and getting to know the teachers and the school community.
“My door is always open,” Hankins said, inviting students, parents and community members to stop in and meet him.
