Lake County paper lags behind on arts coverage

The last time I wrote a letter to the editor was in 1974 for a high school journalism assignment, rebelling as a “lunch lady aid” in the cafeteria when only the girls, not the scraggly haired boys, were required to wear hairnets. Today, I am penning a letter regarding another perceived injustice.
The Lake County Leader has been a local icon for 100 years, celebrating community triumphs and chronicling this beautiful valley’s history with flair and courtesy since the founding of Polson as a town. Recently however, the heart and soul of the Leader seems to have shifted away from covering the full gamut of activities found in this diverse place we call home. Where is the coverage of any of the “art” activities in the area? Why are local theatre troupes or musical groups covered in the Missoulian (thank-you Vince Devlin and Sherry Devlin!) and the Valley Journal (thank-you all!) but not in the Leader?
Having lived here for 54 years, the daughter of a teacher and coach, I appreciate and expect the Leader’s great coverage of sports teams, outdoor activities and wildlife. These are important aspects of our community but I also expect a non-biased paper to cover activities that involve the hard work of a multitude of students, community members and enthusiastic true leaders (thank-you Lewings!)
We are blessed beyond belief to have opportunities in the Mission Valley to enjoy a plethora of activities, tailored to each individual’s desires. Please consider removing the “Arts Bias” from The Lake County Leader and I will consider “un-cancelling” my subscription.
