POLSON — “Hopefully this will last a little while,” Lake County Sheriff Lucky Larson said, patting a big sack of dog food.
The sack was just one of the 3,601 pounds of dog food, cat food, cat litter, dog biscuits and two ounces of dog brownies donated to the Mission Valley Animal Shelter by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The LCSO held its annual Putt for Paws golf tournament at the Mission Mountain Golf Course in Ronan on Aug. 10.
Larson said, “We wanted to have a morale booster for Lake County Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement, and we wanted a great charity for the money to go to.”
About 40 people from different branches of law enforcement, such as Tribal Law Enforcement, Youth Court, Lake County Detention and even some officers from Missoula, participated in Putt for Paws. With the money raised, Larson and the golfers went to Cenex, bought dog food and cat food and loaded it on Larson’s trailer alongside cat litter bought from an area business. Then the work party proceeded to the Mission Valley Animal Shelter and unloaded the plunder.
