POLSON — The Road Toad is a hot rod built on a 1927 Model T Ford. Owner J.R. Lang from Dunnellon, Fla., drove the Toad and its attached trailer to Montana.
He’s driven the Toad up here four times since it was completed in 2002; the unique vehicle has 60,000 miles on it, so it’s not “a trailer queen.”
It drifts right along on the interstate where Lang’s biggest concern is crosswinds, since the rig has a lot of surface area.
The hot rod and trailer took 20 months to finish, with one guy working full-time and Lang part-time. It’s constructed on two-axle trailers with marine plywood walls. The walls were originally 2’ by 2’ but were “whittled down to fit,” according to Lang.
The trailer has a bed, a tiny table and benches, a small sink, a shower and bathroom and, of course, a TV.
A rabid University of Nebraska fan, Lang will continue on to Seattle from Polson, “following his Cornhuskers.”
