RONAN — On a quiet Sunday, Aug. 8, the last day of the Lake County Fair, pickups and horse trailers started pulling into the fairgrounds near the rodeo arena before 9 a.m. Parents were driving kids who belong to the Southwest Youth Rodeo Association to the Ronan rodeo. About 63 competitors from around the state showed up to ride steers, pole bending, team rope, breakaway rope, dummy rope, run barrels, goat tail tie, goat tie and flag race.
Martha McClure has put the rodeo for the last nine years. Usually the rodeo is right after Pioneer Days, but this year Pioneer Days moved so McClure cooperated and moved her rodeo. The SYRA has been around for 11 years, McClure noted.
Results for the rodeo include:
Dummy roping, 7 and younger

3/4 tie – Tori Yeager, Choteau, and Alexis McDonald, Gardiner
Dummy roping, ages 8 to 10
