LIBBY — Despite mechanical problems with the speech bus, a late arrival in Libby causing most of the team to miss their first round of competition and students absent, the Polson speech team did well at the Libby Invitational Speech and Drama Meet on Dec. 7. Cold weather didn’t keep 11 teams from attending the meet.
Top Polson forensics placers were: Sharidan Russell, who finished in second place in both Extemporaneous Speaking and Impromptu Speaking; Jordan Broussard, who earned sixth place in Serious Oral Interpretation of Literature;
Brian Jore, a seventh place finisher in Serious Oral Interpretation of Literature; and Annabelle Smith and Katie Stobie, who finished third in Policy Debate.
“Sharidan is simply a strong, consistent speaker; I’m never surprised when she finishes near the top,” commented head speech coach Jon Petersen.
He added that he and his assistant coaches are pleased with freshmen Annabelle Smith and Katie Stobie, who are proving to be excellent debaters. New to the team this year is senior Brian Jore who is a solid speaker in Serious Oral Interpretation of Literature.
Polson finished third in team (sweepstakes) competition, following Columbia Falls in first with Stevensville second. Flathead High School finished first in AA speech.
