RONAN — The 2013 program for “Youth Shoots,” at the Mission Valley Shooting Club near Ronan, came to an end at the Dec. 1 shoot where rewards were given to participants.

Top shooter of the year with the most first place finishes was Andrey Bauer of Polson. Andrey received a participation certificate and a $60 gift certificate to Ronan Sports and Western. Andrey and his father Ken Bauer were great supporters of the shoots. Throughout the year, Ken came up with multiple challenges for the kids.

The prize for best attendance went to the Tomlin family of Charlo. Kory and Jamie were able to attend almost all of the shoots this year. Along with the kids Brock, Kyla and Jacob, they won a $40 gift certificate to Ronan Sports and Western and a certificate for Family of the Year.

Don Garcia and grandson Trystan received a certificate for the most support. Don and Trystan would come early and help setup along with providing other generous donations.

There are many people who come out to these events and make them work. Thanks to all of the parents, grandparents and volunteers who help. An average close to 150 youth shooters participate each year. Adults as well as children shoot and combine their scores with the kids.

Each time a youth attends their name goes into a drawing for a rifle and scope donated each year by Ronan Sports and Western. This year’s winner was Karen Thomas from Ronan. Karen and son Tim brought along a friend of Tim’s, Kendrew Deverouev. Kendrew’s name was drawn as the 2013 winner. As the signing guardian for Kendrew, Karen was presented the rifle. Karen, Tim and Kendrew will share the gun and put it to good use.

These shoots happen on the first Sunday of each month. Lunch starts at noon and shooting starts at 1 p.m. All of the equipment and food are provided, so all the kids ages 8-18 need to bring with them, is a parent or guardian. Every youth that attends wins a prize.

The Mission Valley Shooting Club and Tom Fieber provide funding to keep this going. The shoots are open to all youths and there is no cost to attend. Our next shoot will be next year on Jan. 5.
