POLSON — At their Dec. 9 meeting, the Polson School Board prepared for “paperless” board meetings, an idea first brought up by Trustee Caroline McDonald last fall.

Since the changeover has already been approved and since several board members already own a device, the district will buy three iPads for trustee use and will hold informal classes to teach non-techies how to retrieve meeting documents. The board plans to be paperless for their January meeting.

The district should recoup the expenditure in two to three months, figuring employee time, paper and ink, according to Pam Owen, district clerk.

Documents will be available in PDF format on the school website so members of the public may keep informed.

Superintendent Linda Reksten reported on the heating and air conditioning system at Polson High School and said bids will be put out for that project by the end of January.

Regarding the PHS roof and other improvements project, Trustee John Laimbeer asked for a document noting how much money was approved for the project, how much has been spent and how much remains in the budget.

In other business, trustees approved a school bus stop at the Mission Valley Aquatic Center.

Superintendent Reksten said the district transportation committee had concerns about the safety issues of dropping children, including very young students, off at the stoplight on Memory Lane, for the quarter mile hike to the pool for after-school swim practice. The transportation committee recommended the addition of this bus stop.

The board also approved out-of-state travel for a Polson band trip to the Winter Park Music Festival in Winter Park, Colo., over spring break.

The next meeting will be held on Jan. 13, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. in the district conference room.
