RONAN – A tiny snowstorm didn’t stop hundreds of Ronan residents from taking to the streets to catch candy and throw their name into the hopper for thousands of dollars in prizes given away at the annual Parade of Lights and Ronan Chamber of Commerce Holiday Treasures drawing on Friday.
“It was nice, other than the snow and being cold,” said Toni Molzhon, who was attending her first parade. “They are braving the weather. I wouldn’t be out here if I didn’t have quite a few tickets in there. If I win something fine, if I don’t oh, well. That’s okay.”
In an effort to keep holiday spending local, merchants gave out tickets for every $2 spent at their businesses during the holiday season. The tickets were put in a huge basket and 14 lucky tickets were drawn for more than $10,000 in prizes also donated by the merchants.
Molzhon was the lucky winner of a “Taste of the Valley” prize package worth more than $800, but later traded it in, when she won again, for a $949 His and Hers outdoors package, that came with gear from many local sporting goods stores. Nancy Vaughan went home with the “Taste of the Valley” package upon a re-draw, and will be able to eat at a number Mission Valley eateries because of it. Gale Gee won a $929 package for miscellaneous vendors. Bob Turpin took home a $1132 car care package. Mike and Debbie Kelch were the recipients of a healthcare package. Names of other winners were not available.
