RONAN —From rodeos to street dances, the Ronan Pioneer Days’ festivities will charm delighted audiences of all ages.

Instead of cramming the Lake County Fair and the Ronan Pioneer Days into just a few fun days, the Pioneer Days Company and the Lake County Fair Board opted to separate the two events, giving participants plenty of opportunity to enjoy the festivities.

According to Pioneer Days Company secretary Robin Nelson, the event started in the early 1960s and was formerly called the Days of 49. Almost 50 years later, the event is a proud tradition in Lake County that continues to attract Lake County locals and tourists from as far away as Florida, Nelson said.

This year, Pioneer Days will be held  the weekend before the Lake County Fair and will feature three rodeos, a volleyball tournament, two parades, street dances and a three-on-three basketball tournament at the school’s outside courts.

“The wild buffalo ride is … open to the public in general,” Nelson explained. “So anyone who stays on the buffalo the longest gets the prize.”

And it’s usually a person with long legs, she added.

Another highlight of the Pioneer Days is the City Slicker Rodeo.

“Usually Lonnie Metzger comes up with some funny things to do,” Nelson said.

The “stupid human tricks” rodeo is a comical event filled with family fun for the whole family.

Della and the Dealers will perform for an audience of eager street dancers on Friday evening, while Saturday night’s crowd will be entertained by Coup de Ville.

The grand marshal of Sunday’s parade will be the Olsson family, who are celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Community Bank on Friday.
