POLSON — The Polson Chamber of Commerce and Lake County Job Service are pleased to announce that they have launched a “tool kit” to welcome new businesses to our town. This project, which is Phase 1 of what is being called the “Polson Business Growth Action Plan,” seeks to provide information about the business community and the local area and to welcome potential entrepreneurs to town. “We have a lot of people out there working hard to help bring and welcome new business owners to town, but we have never had a centralized program to pull things together,” said Heather Knutson, 2012 Chamber of Commerce President. “During the economic downturn, as businesses were closing many people were asking what we were going to do about it. We decided to team up with the Lake County Job Service to begin the process of recruiting new business.”

Phase 1 of Polson’s Business Growth Action Plan can be found on the Polson Chamber of Commerce website at http://polsonchamber.com/start-business.asp. While this information is just the beginning to the program, it addresses a missing piece of business recruitment — having a welcoming spirit towards entrepreneurs, providing general information, and offering a tour of our town and introductions to current business owners and other leaders.

Active recruitment of new business to a community is something that will eventually take significant funding.

“Although there was no budget available to us, we felt it important to at least do what we can to get this program started,” said Todd Erickson of Lake County Job Service. “Now we have a platform to build from, and we hope to get others excited and interested in helping to get creative in the recruitment process.”

In addition to the Polson Chamber of Commerce and Lake County Job Service, there were many others who contributed to get this phase launched. Lake County Community Development offered insight and is currently working on the available properties element of this plan, and many local business owners and leaders of the community took time to provide input and review the program as it developed.
