PABLO — To celebrate Martin Luther King’s legacy and his birthday, Salish Kootenai College scheduled a slate of activities for Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Wednesday, Jan. 22.

On Tuesday, the commemoration at Three Wolves Cafeteria began with an introduction and honor song at 11 a.m. followed by music and peace walks, sometimes known as cake walks. Participants answered questions about Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the world’s greatest civil rights leaders, to win cakes.

In the conference room at Three Wolves, Cameron Decker led a sign-making project so students and staff could create their posters and signs for the peace walk and also for the children at the SKC Childcare Center.

At 11 a.m. on Jan. 22 SKC students, staff and the general public can gather for a peace walk around campus and then on to the SKC Childcare Center to sing songs with the children, according to SKC organizer Heather Licht.
