POLSON — North Lake County Public Library in Polson reminds the community that two collections of digitized historical materials have been placed online at the Montana Memory Project. Both are accessible to the public and pertain to the local Polson area.
One collection is early-day photographs gathered by local historian, author, and freelance photojournalist Paul Fugleberg.
This collection contains significant photos of Polson and the surrounding areas from 1865 to 1998. Some of the images are Paul Fugleberg’s own; the remainder he collected for more than 50 years. They depict local people, landscapes and landmarks, recreation, tourism, transportation, Native American culture, agriculture, and the Homestead Era.
The second collection is digitized historical newspapers from the Polson area.
Both the early-day Flathead Courier (1910 – 1922) and the historic Lake Shore Sentinel (1909 – 1911) are available for viewing. Those interested can access each page, enlarge or shrink images, rotate, see transcripts, and do text searches.
To access this material, go to the Montana Memory Project at mtmemory.org and scroll down to the two collections, which are entitled:
• Polson Area Historical Photographs - The Paul Fugleberg Collection
• Polson’s Early Newspapers – The Flathead Courier and The Lake Shore Sentinel
For more information, please call North Lake County Public Library at (406) 883-8225 or stop by the circulation desk at #2 First Avenue East in Polson. The library staff extends its thanks to both Paul Fugleberg and the Montana State Library for their help in creating and posting these collections.
