POLSON — Polson City Commissioners waived the open container law and extended the curfew to 11:30 p.m. for Festivals on the Flathead’s Night of Country at their Aug. 1 meeting.

Curfew is normally 10 p.m. so it needs to be waived for special events.

According the event organizer Keryl Lozar, the Night of Country event will be held Aug. 20 at Salish Point.

After discussion, commissioners gave Gary Kapp preliminary approval for a three-lot subdivision on La Vista Lane.

Most of the discussion centered around drainage issues.

Donna Kenmire, a neighbor on La Vista, said Kapp would like neighboring homeowners to help pay for an engineer to fix his water problems, but they can’t afford it.

Stormwater runs down the road, and the neighbors present said there is more water since Kapp built his home.

“. . . We do look at their gutters and drainage on the lots. He (Kapp) said he has not contributed to the problem. The neighbors say he has,” Commissioner Judy Preston summarized.

Polson City Treasurer Bonnie Manicke presented the May 2011 cash report, describing “a fabulous second half of tax collection.”

Manicke reported a $349,000 cash balance.

In other business, commissioners approved accepting $10,000 of Tax Increment Fund money that had already been pledged to pay for the streetscape project.

During public comment, Commissioner Elsa Duford noted that an agenda request should be the same for everybody.

The next city commission meeting will be held Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at Polson City Hall, 106 First Street E.
