Bulldogs move on, despite loses

 

ST. IGNATIUS – The Bulldogs started off on the right foot snagging the District spot from Ronan in the play-in game, but came up short in Hamilton. Yet the team advances to divisional play this week. 

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs took on the Chiefs vying for the final spot at the 6B District Tournament. Behind Bulldogs Stuart Grant and Patrick Eicherts’ 32 points, 16 apiece, Mission grabbed the play-in victory over Ronan, 80-60.

On Friday the Bulldogs opened the District tournament in Hamilton with a loss against Loyola-Sacred Heart 47-69. Aaron Fisher-Ahenakew scored 16 points for the Bulldogs while Stuart Grant and Will Powell each chipped in 11.

At the consolation game, the Bulldogs fell to Deer Lodge 75-80 but not without a fight, bringing the Wardens into overtime. Grant netted 26 points with Fisher Ahenakew right behind adding 23.

The Bulldogs will advance to the Divisional Tournament in Hamilton, challenging Bigfork at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27. If they win, they will take on the winner of the Plains vs. Loyola game in the semi-finals Thursday, Feb. 28 at 9:15 p.m. If they lose, they meet the loser of Plains vs. Loyola game at 9:40 a.m. Thursday in a consolation, loser-out contest.

Lady Bulldogs finish up season

 

RONAN – Vying for a spot at the Western Class B Divisional tournament, the Lady Bulldogs tumbled to the Maidens in Ronan, 24-45, on Tuesday in the district 6B play-in game. Carley Elverud netted nine points for the Lady Bulldogs while Sydney Castor and Kaylie Durglo each chipped in four. The Lady Bulldogs end their season with a 2-17 record.

Ronan ends with heartbreaker

 

ST. IGNATIUS – In what would be their last game of the season, the Chiefs fell to Mission 60-80 on Tuesday at the play-in game in Mission, giving up their spot at the Divisional Tournament. 

Ronan ended their season with a 4-15 season record. Despite the upset, Tim Woll led the Chiefs scoring 14 points. Kollin Wroblewski added nine.

Maidens make 6B district debut

 

RONAN – It all started with a big win over Mission that enabled the Maidens to travel to Hamilton and compete at the District Tournament, the first time since dropping down to class B. 

On Tuesday the Maidens grabbed that spot by beating the Lady Bulldogs 45-24 at the play-in game hosted by Ronan. Lee Camel netted 11 for the Maidens securing their spot in Hamilton.

On Friday, the Maidens found themselves on the opposite end of the victory line as they fell in their first district appearance to Deer Lodge 28-46. Lee Camel scored almost half of the Maiden points with 10.

Saturday the Maidens faced Florence in the consolation game. Though the Maidens opened, outscoring the Lady Falcons by eight, Ronan couldn’t keep their grip and came home with a 35-53 loss. Kendra Starkel high-scored for the Maidens with eight points while Haley O’Hern added seven.

The Maidens will play Bigfork, the top-seeded school in 7B, at 11:20 a.m. Thursday at the Divisional Tournament hosted by Hamilton. If they win, they face the winner of the Thompson Falls vs Loyola Friday at 4 p.m. for the semi-finals. If they don’t, they’ll play the loser of the Thompson Falls vs Loyola match-up on Friday at 8 a.m. in a consolation, loser-out game.
