RONAN – There wasn’t a pot of gold at the end of Ronan’s arch, but that didn’t stop leprechauns and green-clad citizens from coming out in full force to trot down Main Street in the 25th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
“We’ve got a good line-up,” Jennifer Rolfsness said as she helped organize the group. She pointed out the Second Chance Saloon’s float that was covered top to bottom in green. Even the windshield was partially obscured with a huge set of glasses. “See, it’s St. Patrick’s Day through Ronan’s eyes,” Rolfsness said with a laugh.
Nearby, the Palmer memorial horse, painted green in memory of Dave and Denny Palmer, brayed. For Rolfsness and former Ronan City Clerk Carlene Bockman, the parade is an event steeped in a quarter century of history. Each year the floats don’t disappoint, but for Bockman, the sturdiness of the fans is also impressive.
“The spectators are always incredible,” Bockman said. “They are always there in all kinds of weather.”
