Track and field kicks off season at Ronan Invitational

Ronan’s field was abuzz on Saturday as several teams from around western Montana came to battle the spring rain and mud and compete in Ronan’s first invitational meet of the season. Valley teams from Arlee and Mission also made their debuts.

While the Ronan Maidens faired the best among the girls’ team scores, taking sixth out of 18 with a team score of 29, all three valley teams boasted top six spot competitors. 

Arlee Scarlet Jessica Knoll was the sole first-place holder for Lake County girls, grabbing the number-one finish in the 400m. Knoll also placed fourth in the 800m and sixth in the 600m. Maiden Lee Camel finished third in the long jump landing 14’4”. Ronan boasted three fourth-place finishers for the Maidens with Jessie Lewis (100m and 200m), Jade Gray (1600m), and Kianna Howell (400m). Scarlet Eula Fullerton came away with fourth in the pole vault, clearing six feet while Mission produced fifth place finishers Kaylie Durglo (1600m) and Sydney Castor (triple jump). Castor also placed sixth in the long jump. Courtney Heath took sixth in the 400m for the Lady Bulldogs. Ronan Maidens took sixth in the 1600m relay.

Ronan Chief Lucas Gerhardt was the only first-place valley finisher for the boys. Gerhardt went long in the shot put, throwing 45’10” to take the first-place medal. Bulldog Patrick Eichert came away with fourth in the triple jump, launching 38’7.5” and Chief Connor Benn also finished in fourth clearing 10 feet in the pole vault. The Chiefs finished fourth in the 1600m relay. Ronan’s Cole Gerhardt finished in sixth for the Chiefs throwing 116’10” in the discus.

Ronan and Arlee will travel to Corvallis April 5 and Arlee will add another stop on the 10th in Hot Springs. Mission will not compete until April 12 in Bigfork.

Team scores – Plains 117, Seeley-Swan 71, Thompson Falls 58, Bigfork 52, Loyola Sacred Heart 41, Ronan 29, Frenchtown 28, Eureka 27, Arlee 19, Deer Lodge 16, Alberton 16, Lincoln 9, Mission 6, Florence 6.
