News from Magazines for Troops

RONAN — The Ronan High School National Honor Society and the Polson High School Key Club have been helping raise funds for Magazines for Troops for the past several years through service projects, fundraisers/donations, and magazine drives. They have “adopted” many boxes with their generous donations. These young people understand how important it is to supply reading materials to our deployed troops overseas.  Their commitment continues to be much appreciated.

The Ronan High School National Honor Society has also committed their time to cut labels off the magazines donated by individuals in the community before they are sorted for packing . This is very time consuming and is a huge help.

The Polson High School Key Club sponsored a book sale booth at the recent Winter Carnival, but it did not generate many funds. Therefore, on April 12, the members are going to assist Esther Gunlock in another book sale to raise money for postage for the magazines. It will be held at the Polson Library meeting room on April 12, from 10 a.m.– 4 p.m. All books were previously donated by the community, but are not appropriate to send to the troops, such as hard backs, large books, or romance novels. All books sent to the troops must fit into their pockets or a backpack. These books will be sold at very reasonable prices to help generate postage for the non-profit volunteer organization. There is a large variety of titles for everyone.

Please note: Magazines for Troops will not be accepting any more books until further notice, as the inventory is quite high right now.

Magazines for Troops is currently serving 275 units, including many aircraft carriers. To send one box per month to each recipient requesting reading materials costs $3,000.

To help meet postage demands, think about the Adopt-a-Box Program. Contact Esther Gunlock at (406) 883-1517, for more information.

A great big thank you goes to everyone in the Mission Valley who has helped support Magazines for Troops, making deployment more enjoyable.
