ST. IGNATIUS — The Lady Bulldogs used a 10-0 divisional ticket-punching victory over Eureka to erase a nightmarish end to the regular season.

At home Monday, the Lady Bulldogs looked like a different team than the one that closed the season being shutout by Thompson Falls and committing 13 errors against Florence for their first losing streak of the season. The Lady Bulldogs made quick work of the Lady Lions, ending the game in five innings to improve to 11-6 and earn a spot at the Western B-C Divisional Tournament starting Thursday in Thompson Falls.

The Lady Bulldogs open the tournament against Drummond at 11 a.m. They went 2-0 against the Lady Trojans, outscoring them 28-1 in the two victories.

With the convincing win against the Lady Lions, the Lady Bulldogs were able to put the 16-10 loss to the Lady Falcons on senior night Friday behind them and just focus on being one of the four team from the Western B-C to earn a spot at the state tournament.

“I think having the whole weekend to let it go helped. We had to realize there was nothing we could do about it now and we just had to let it go and focus on making it to the state championship,” said Mission catcher Katie McDonald, who had four RBIs against the Lady Lions, including a three-run shot that went over the left field fence before bouncing off a car in the Lady Bulldogs four-run fourth inning.

“It was a high ball down the middle. Those are the ones where my eyes get huge and I have to send it,” McDonald said.

Kyla Olson allowed only one hit and struck out 10 in 4-2/3 innings, before handing the ball to Loren Erickson for the final out.

Lady Bulldog third baseman Janeal McDonald went 2-for-2 with two doubles and a RBI. Janeal scored a run in the Lady Bulldogs four-run third and fourth inning. Lady Bulldog leadoff hitter Bella Dally went 1-for-3 and scored two runs. Shortstop Kinley Pope scored two runs.

“I think it (the win) gave us a confidence boost. The Florence game took our pride away if anything,” McDonald said.
