RONAN — The Ronan Library thanked patrons and local taxpayers last week by hosting an open house and community appreciation day.

“We’re expressing gratitude to the community for their support,” Librarian Michelle Fenger said. “We want to thank them for basically keeping us in the biz.”

Last May, voters approved a mil levy that provides a consistent source of funding for the library. It allowed the facility to expand its hours to six days per week.

“The feedback we’ve gotten is fairly positive,” Fenger said of the longer hours.

The establishment recently rolled out new library cards, and is in the process of building a new website.

Fenger encouraged people to stop by and let the library know how it could be of service.

“Our purpose is to serve the community,” Fenger said. “If they don’t tell us, we don’t know we need it.”

More than 80 people stopped by the open house to enjoy treats, crafts, and games sponsored by the Friends of the Library group.

Malakai Placid laughed as ice cream punch gave him a milk moustache. Cannon English and Emma Hoppe went straight for the crafts room to make Easter-themed creations. Michael Kibler scrunched up his face as he scratched down an estimate of how many M&Ms were in the “Guess How Many” jar.

The delicious treats disappeared once the children were released from school, but the fun kept rolling.

Fenger’s already planning for the library’s next big event: kick off of the summer reading program.
