Editor,

I wish to commend the new actions I recently read about in your paper. Holding drug users and drug dealers accountable is the only way to stop that behavior. Laws cannot solve the problem we have as has been proved over the years. Law enforcement cannot address every problem they encounter but the people can.

I love this community and served as an addiction counselor for more than 18 years and during that time I worked primarily with people sent to me from the legal justice system who were convicted of felony drug or alcohol crimes. These people had violated the terms the legal system had placed on them and were usually facing additional prison time. The legal system could not stop them from drinking or using drugs but by holding them accountable for their actions, most of these people were able to get clean and stay clean. If there is more accountability coming from the community members this problem can be cured.

I believe in the people and the only way bad things happen is when good people do nothing. If you see a law being broken, call it in; don’t just ignore it. Don’t be afraid of these people who try to threaten you because that is the way they operate and will only continue their behavior, which can and will eventually take lives. They don’t care. Until held accountable, all they want is to drink or use drugs. Thank you to the Housing Authority people.
