Eagles come up just short against Darby, Victor

The Eagles suffered a pair of close losses this week as Two Eagle River fell to Darby in overtime Tuesday and lost to Victor by a single point Thursday.
Skyler Rossbach's running three just missed at the buzzer Thursday as the Eagles fell to visiting Victor, 61-60.
Two Eagle opened the game with a 13-11 lead after eight minutes of play and the Eagles continued to lead at the half, 28-25. The Eagles pushed their lead to 43-37 after three quarters but Pirates used a 24-17 run over the final eight minutes to get the win.
Marcus Brown and Clayton Malatare each scored 16 to lead the Eagles while T.J. Cutfinger and Artie Mendoza each added nine points.
Dalton Buker led Victor with 22 points.
The Eagles saw a first-half lead disappear at Darby Tuesday as the Tigers overcame Two Eagle in overtime, 67-60.
The Eagles used a strong first quarter surge to jump out to a 20-15 lead after eight minutes of play and continued to lead at halftime, 26-24. Darby used a third-quarter run to grab a 38-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter but the Eagles responded by tying the game at 53 at the end of regulation. The overtime period belonged to Darby's Josh McCrossin and Devin Thomas as both players scored four to help the Tigers outscore Two Eagle 14-7 in the extra period.
The Eagles had three players in double figures in the loss as Malatare led the team with 15 points while Cutfinger added 12 and Trevor Butterfly scored 10 points.
The Eagles will be back in action Friday as they host Noxon before travelling to Phillipsburg Saturday.
