MOIESE — Tribal Natural Resources Department announces the 2014 River Honoring event will begin Monday, May 12 at 6 p.m. with a community gathering.  The public is invited and welcome to attend the opening of the River Honoring. The gathering will begin with an announcement of the 2014 River Honorees. A free dinner will follow.

Tuesday and Wednesday, May 13 and 14, approximately 1,000 fourth and fifth grade students will travel from all across the Reservation to attend the annual River Honoring education event.  This two-day outdoor environmental education event provides students an opportunity to increase their awareness of the unique natural and cultural resource attributes of the Lower Flathead River.

The River Honoring combines tribal and community resource specialists and educators from Tribal Fisheries Program, Tribal Wildlife Program, Tribal Wildland Recreation, Water Quality, Air Quality, Tribal Forestry Department, Health Education, and Tribal Division of Fire. Educational programs will demonstrate projects and activities that educate students about the river and its ecosystem.

To attend the River Honoring, turn west at Ronan onto Round Butte Road and drive eight miles west, turn south on Moiese Valley Road.  Drive six miles to the teepee camp along the Lower Flathead River.

This outdoor environmental educational event is free and open to the public.
