Right on track: Lake County schools duke it out in Polson

Polson hosted all six valley schools on Tuesday for a Lake County showdown on the track and in the field. The Pirates and Lady Pirates dominated with both the boys and girls taking the first place team crowns. Pirates came away with a top score of 181 and the Lady Pirates scored a 199.66. Charlo boys placed second with a team score of 149 and Ronan’s Maidens took second as a team with a score of 115.

Lady Pirate Claudia Hewston was the day’s big winner, taking first in three events. Hewston finished number one in the 800 meter with a time of 2:36.8; 1,600 meter with a time of 5:48.5; and cleared 9-0 in the pole vault to claim the top spots. Other Lady Pirates to grab first included Tiara Duford in both the 100 meter (13.62) and the 400 meter (1:02.7), Lydia Bowman in the 200 meter (27.78), Anna Young in the 3200 meter (13:20.4), Amanda Harrod in discus throwing 97-5, Chloie Huerta in shot put tossing 33-7, and Mariah Corrigan in javelin hurling 115-3. The Lady Pirates relay team placed first in the 400 meter relay.

For the Maidens it was all about the jump. Ronan’s Sydnee Clairmont cleared 4-10 to take first in the high jump and Lee Camel came away with a first place win in the triple jump going 31-10 ?. 

Charlo’s Lady Vikings saw Aspen Runkel dominating both hurdle races taking first in both events with a 100 meter hurdle time of 17.6 and a 300 time of 48.32. Arlee’s Whitney Malatare logged first in the long jump, landing 15-7 ? and sharing the top spot with Camel in the triple jump. Charlo’s Lady Viking relay team placed first in the 1,600 meter relay.

Second place finishers include Lady Pirates Lydia Bowman (100 meter), Tiara Duford (200 meter), Madison Wheeler (300 hurdles, pole vault), Chloie Huerta (discus), and Gracie Carlyle (long jump). The Maidens picked up second with Alex Dennis (100 hurdles), Kiana Howell (400 meter), Ally Buhr (high jump), and Aspen Jore (javelin). Arlee’s Becca Whitesell took second in both the 800 meter and 1,600 meter while teammate Alex Adams came in the number two spot in pole vault. Lady Viking Mackenzie Foust took second in the 3,200 for Charlo. Polson’s relay team finished in second in the 1,600 meter and Charlo’s Lady Vikings took second in the 400 meter relay.

For the boys the Pirate Tel Motichka and Jacob Clairmont each won two events for Polson. Motichka grabbed gold in the 800 meter finishing at 2:08:3 and also in the 1,600 meter crossing the finish line at 4:56:2. Clairmont finished first in the 100 hurdles clocking a time of 16:38 and cleared 20-3 for a first place in the long jump. The Pirates first place finishers also include Jonah Kasnitz in the 200 meter (24.91) and Joe Gallatin in discus (124-10).

Charlo’s Vikings also picked up a dual winner with Michael Delaney taking first in both the 100 meter finishing with of a time of 11.66 and the 300 meter hurdles coming in at 42.89. Also taking first-place honors for the Vikings were Manual Ammann in the 3,200 meter (10:53.9), Tyler Delaney in the 400 meter (53.89), and Jacen Peterson clearing 13-0 in the pole vault for a first place finish. Viking relay teams grabbed first in both the 400 meter and 1,600 meter relays.

Ronan’s Lucas Gebhardt placed first in both shot put, throwing 48-5, and javelin, landing 160-8. 

Mission’s Patrick Eichert was the lone first placer for the Bulldogs, finishing in first in the long jump, going 39-9. 

Finding second place were Pirates Dan DiGiallonardo (200 meter), Jared Rubel (300 hurdles), Mike Corrigan (discus), Joe Gallatin (shot put), Jacob Clairmont (pole vault, triple jump) and Joey Mullen (javelin). Seconds also went to Vikings Dalton Delaney (3,200 meter), Kail Pope (100 hurdles), Connor Daugherty (400 meter), Trent Dennison (800 meter), and Manuel Amman (1,600 meter). Arlee’s Isaac Desjarlais came in second in the 100 meter and Two Eagle River’s Kamiah Payne grabbed second in the long jump. Polson’s Pirates placed second in both relays.
