Stop chasing gophers

Editor,

The almost weekly news articles about the profound incompetence of the city of Ronan employees and elected officials led by their mayor Kim Aipperspach have triggered me to write and point out the failure of the voters in the community who continually re-elect the mayor.

I compare Ronan politics to an event that I witnessed as a youth. I showed up early for school and witnessed most of the students following someone who seemed to be chasing a small creature that was running through the grass. As I got closer I realized that my peers were fervently following the class idiot, who was chasing a gopher. Since gophers are a carrier of rabies, this put me into a state of shock and disbelief. The class idiot caught the gopher and of course the gopher bit him. He went through a period of painful rabies vaccinations, with 12-inch needles, and after all of that, my classmates who had followed him thought that it was cool.

This is a great analogy for the voters of Ronan who continually “chase the idiot” who brings them to buffoonery.

Upon reading the release last Friday of the prisoner who beat up the guard because of the incompetence of the Lake County Attorney’s Office to file charges in a timely fashion, I realized that the gopher story should be focused closer to home, i.e. Polson and the county seat, which resides in Polson.

To the credit of the Lake County voters, who did not re-elect the county attorney, a certain lever of competence has been reaffirmed. Nevertheless, the defeated county attorney, Mitch Young, whose office allows the convict who beat up the jail guard, an act which was documented and filmed, to be freed because of their incompetence, will be subjecting Lake County residents to this kind of failure and danger until his term is over, six months from now. Voters should not be subjected to this incompetence and danger for another minute.

All elected officials in Lake County should encourage Mitch Young to resign the office that voters lost confidence in. Quit chasing the gopher. Get rid of Mitch.
