BILLINGS – Polson’s FC U19 girl’s soccer club finished third at the State Cup tournament June 15. While climbing the ropes through the tournament they found themselves in the premier bracket facing Helena, but fell 1-3 to Helena’s club who ultimately placed first in the State battle.
Polson’s Coach Heidi Howell said her team is young with only six players above the age of 16. Playing against teams that are true 18 and 19 year olds has toughened the youthful club.
“This season has strengthened our player’s individual skill levels along with the speed of their team play,” Howell said.
Spring league gives the players the opportunity to keep their skills sharp and to gain experience they will take with them going into high school fall play.
Howell said they see a lot of the same players on the field they will also face in the fall, and this gives them the ability to see where they need to be.
She believes her girls are ready for the upcoming season and is excited to see them excel.
“They are definitely pumped and ready for their high school season to begin,” she said.
