MISSOULA — The Warriors got a big boost with the return of Kyle Felsman.

In his first meet since the 2008 state tournament, the senior won the high jump and triple jump and placed second in the long jump at the Lake County Invitational Thursday and then followed that up with a second-place finish in the high jump at the Seeley-Swan Invitational Saturday. Sam Nelson was the only other Warrior to place at the Seeley-Swan Invite, placing sixth in the javelin with a throw of 138 feet, 9 inches.

Points and a good example is what Felsman brings to the young Warrior team, said Arlee coach Russell Baker.

“There’s not an arrogant bone in his body. He’s a good sport win or lose,” Baker said.

Saturday at the Missoula County Stadium, Felsman was in a three-way tie for first place in the high jump and was cheering on his two opponents during the jump-off for first place. He finished tied for second with Superior’s Matt Hayes, both clearing 5 feet, 10 inches, the same height that won the Lake County Invitational.

Thursday, Felsman won the triple jump (39-3) and came in second in the long jump (19-5.5). It was the first time that Felsman competed in the long jump, but his distance came as no surprise to Baker.

“Anyone that’s seen him play basketball, knows he can jump,” Baker said.

Felsman placed in five events to help the Warriors finished fourth at the Lake County meet with 36 points. Felsman finished third in the 200 and sixth in the javelin. Nelson finished fourth in the javelin and fifth in the triple jump (36-8.75). Zach Tameler finished fourth in the triple jump (37-7.75).

The Scarlets scored 33 points at the Lake County meet to finish in fourth place. Becca Nelson placed second in the javelin with a throw of 107 feet and third in the discus (91-5) and third in the long jump. Baker said that Nelson is capable of winning all three of those events at the district tournament.

Rachelle Meidinger finished third in the shot put with a personal best throw of 30 feet, 10 inches. It was the first time Rachelle broke the 30-foot mark this season.

“That’s what they’ve been shooting for,” Baker said of Rachelle and twin sister Aspen, who finished in sixth place with a throw of 29 feet, 6 inches.

Scarlet senior Chelsea Allaire finished in fourth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.34 seconds. Saturday, Allaire finished in 17.6 seconds, but didn’t place. Allaire also finished in fifth in the long jump (13-7), a half inch less than teammate Cassandra Kline, who finished in fourth. Kline also finished tied for third in the triple jump (30-2).

Jenna Pablo placed fifth in the high jump (4-4) and Cortney Dix placed fifth in the triple jump (29-3).

Nelson and Rachelle Meidinger were the only Scarlets to place at the Seeley-Swan Invite Saturday. Meidinger placed third in the shot put (30-2.5) and Nelson placed third in the discus (87-8).

Arlee will compete at the District 14-C Track Meet at the Polson Sports Complex Thursday. While Baker said catching Charlo will be a tough task for his team, he thinks both the Warriors and Scarlets can finish in the top two.

“They give trophies to the top two teams and both are hoping to get trophies,” Baker said.
