POLSON — Firefighters responded to a structure fire at 902 2nd Street W. at about 8:36 p.m. on May 3.

Polson Fire Department Information Officer Karen Sargeant said the department believed the fire started in a back bedroom on the west side of the house.

The door was hot to the touch when firefighters arrived, Sargeant said, and there was lots of smoke.

Firefighters quickly ventilated the house so they were able to see what was going on with the fire.

Sargeant said the structure damage was estimated at $45,000 and damage to the home’s contents also was estimated at about $45,000 for a $90,000 loss for homeowner Kathy Fisk.

No injuries were reported since nobody was home when firefighters arrived. Fisk’s cat was in the garage, which was not damaged; and her dog was with her so Fisk’s animals were also unharmed.

About 25 firefighters responded with both Big Arm and Irvine Flats Fire Companies lending a hand. Ronan firefighters provided mutual aid and responded to the call also, Sargeant said.
